Run, bike, throw, swing, or row your way to Colorado State University – Pueblo campus for the 10th annual 2009 X-Challenge scheduled on April 18. Registration is now underway.
This sprint adventure race consists of competition among two-person teams in three categories: male, female and co-ed. Four person relay teams will consist of one ropes course player, one cyclist, one runner, and one kayaker/runner. Individuals may also enter and will complete the challenge alone.
The competition combines ropes course events with a continuous adventure race. It begins at CSU-Pueblo’s Ropes Challenge Course with several low ropes course events, followed by mountain biking through the Pueblo Greenway trail system, run orienteering in the Pueblo City Park, more cycling to the State Park, open water kayaking in the Pueblo Reservoir, and a short run in the State Park. The terrain covers the full gamut of terrain from hilly to flat and from dirt to grass to pavement. Racers are expected to bring the following equipment: mountain bikes and helmets, run gear, and general competition gear.
The challenge course events will be completed first to determine a starting position and then the rest of the events are completed in a continuo us race. This year's challenge course events will be scored based on quality factors rather than timed.
The event is sponsored by students in the Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion and Recreation, in conjunction with the Outdoors Pursuits Program. Registration is being taken online at http://www.active.com
