CSU–Pueblo offers Teacher Education Fair on Thursday, April 9


Colorado State University-Pueblo will host its annual Teacher Education Fair on Thursday, April 9, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., in the Occhiato University Center. According to Michelle B. Gjerde, director, CSU-Pueblo Career Center, the number of school districts represented, 29, is down significantly from the 45 local, regional, state, and national school district that participated last year.

“Candidates must be teacher qualified to participate. Candidates seeking full-time teaching positions should be professionally dressed and bring plenty of copies of their updated resumes, and be prepared to interview,” Gjerde said.

The Education Fair format schedule is as follows: 9 – 9:45 a.m., Open Networking and Sign-Ups for interviews with school districts; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. , Interviews. Interviews will take place throughout the day with candidates having one or multiple interviews depending candidates’ preferences and availability of recruiters.

Fields with considerable shortage, according to the American Association for Employment in Education (AAEE), are mathematics, chemistry, bilingual education, and special education. Fields that have some surplus are health education, dance education, physical education, and social studies education. The concentrations most in demand by districts are: Foreign Language, Special Education, Math, Science, ESL, Music, and English.
