CSU–Pueblo SIFE students to sponsor art auction with three elementary schools

The Students in Free Enterprise organization at Colorado State University – Pueblo will partner with third-grade classes at three area elementary schools on an art auction to benefit all four entities. SIFE collaborated with third grade classes at Haaff Elementary, Bessemer Academy, and Swallows Charter Academy to develop the items for an on-line art auction beginning March 19 that will raise funds for art programs at each of the schools.

A variety of clay artwork will be on the electronic auction block beginning at noon on Monday, March 19 with winners determined by the highest bidder as of 6 p.m. on Friday, April 6.

SIFE members spent three days with the elementary school students. The first day consisted of presentations on entrepreneurship along with pre and post testing to assess the students’ knowledge of basic business functions. On day two, clay donated by the CSU-Pueblo art department was delivered to the elementary students, who then began work on their choice of sculptures. The wet clay projects were fired thanks to CSU-Pueblo art professor Vicky Hansen. SIFE then supplied paints and brushes for day three activities, which consisted of students painting and finalizing their projects.

Photographs of the student sculptures may be viewed on the auction website, http://studentclubs.colostate-pueblo.edu/SIFE and bids will be taken by clicking on Bid Form. Items will be listed by a small photograph and the title of the piece. Bids will begin at $2 per item with 50 percent of the proceeds going to the elementary schools and the remaining half to the SIFE students for future projects. The parents of each student artist signed a release form to allow their child to participate and to use their pictures for marketing and promotion.
