CSU–Pueblo Fine Art Gallery showcases Ft. Collins MFA Recipients

The Fine Art Gallery at Colorado State University – Pueblo will open its latest exhibit this week featuring the thesis work of Karen Lynn Link and J.M. Jensen, two recent Masters of Fine Arts recipients from CSU – Ft. Collins. The show will run from Aug. 1 through Sept. 28, with a gallery talk and opening reception planned for the first week in September.

Jensen’s land and skyscapes explore the relationship between man and the eternal through the medium of oil on canvas, while Link’s paintings and drawings of Roller Derby events seek to connect with the communal spirit of the crowd and capture women’s strength in a new and positive light.

“Important, for me, is the search for meaning and form and letting instinct free my work to new options that I may not have seen before. . . I want to record and express the physical power and energy of the skaters in my work and the excitement of the roller derby events, as reflected in both the skaters and crowd, alike,” Link said. “Working with imagery that shows women’s strength and sexual bravada in a positive and serious way is a nice counter-balance to what the mainstream presents as images of the perfect woman.”

Both the question and answer session with the artists and the reception will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 5 in the Gallery, located in the Art and Music Building on the CSU-Pueblo campus. The hour-long Gallery talk with Link and Jensen begins at noon, and the opening begins at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the reception.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
