Colorado State University – Pueblo has announced the process by which eight, four-year tuition and book scholarships will be distributed for Fall, 2009, to one student at each Pueblo area high school thanks to the generosity of the Kane Family Foundation.
University officials will contact the superintendents and high school principals in Pueblo City Schools and Pueblo School District 70, seeking a list of the top graduating seniors. In accordance with the gift agreement, one student will be selected based on their high school academic record, written statement, interview, and on recommendations from each high school – Centennial, Central, County, East, South, Pueblo West, and the Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School. An eighth scholarship will be awarded to one student from a combined Rye High School/Pueblo Tech Academy applicant pool. The Kane Scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and books for each awardee for up to five years in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree and is based entirely on merit, rather than financial need.
Interested qualified students are encouraged to apply for admission to CSU-Pueblo and to complete the on-line scholarship application at www.colostate-pueblo.edu/sfs/scholarships.
During February, teams of CSU-Pueblo staff will review applications, select finalists, and conduct interviews at each school. Initial offers for each school will be made to one recipient in early March. Kane Scholars will be announced in late March, and the recipients and their
parents will be invited to a reception before the end of the school year with the two previous classes of Kane Scholars and Kane Family Foundation representatives. For more information on scholarships at CSU-Pueblo, contact Student Financial Services at 719-549-2753.
