Colorado State University - Pueblo new student orientation to begin August 17

PUEBLO – Back to school events for faculty, staff, and students begin over the next few weeks at Colorado State University – Pueblo as the start of the Fall 2011 Semester approaches on Monday, Aug. 22.

Representatives from across the CSU-Pueblo campus will be available on one more Second Saturday to guide primarily continuing students through the registration and application processes. Streamlined registration and application sessions will be held from 9 a.m. - noon on Saturday, August 13 in the Veteran’s Educational Benefits Office, Administration 201. For more information, call the Visitor and Transfer Center at 549-2418 or just stop by the day of the event as no pre-registration is necessary.

Departmental and college faculty meetings will be held on Monday, August 15 as faculty gear up for the new year. As part of the University’s back-to-school events, Colorado State University-Pueblo Interim President Julio Leon will present the 2011 State of the University Address at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16 in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom. 

Student move in begins on Wednesday, August 17, which also marks the beginning of a mandatory, two-and- a- half day Student Orientation  led by the Division of Student Affairs to help students successfully make the transition to CSU-Pueblo and encourage current students to stay involved on campus. More than 40 returning students will comprise the Orientation Team staff that will guide more than 1,000 members of the freshmen class as well as new transfer students through the Orientation process. Students have the opportunity to win great prizes as a result of attending New Student Orientation sessions, including an iPad, iPod touches, iPod nanos, gift cards, a bike, Elitch Gardens tickets, Water World tickets, a bike, Kindles, Wii gaming systems, and CSU-Pueblo gear.

Bruce JennerOrientation begins with New Student Convocation with featured speaker, Bruce Jenner, at        3 p.m on Wednesday, August 17 in Massari Arena as this former Olympic athlete shares how to find the champion within.  Jenner captivated the world when he broke the world record by scoring 8,634 points in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and earned the title of World’s Greatest Athlete.  His accomplishments earned him the coveted Wheaties cereal box for seven years.  In the years following his athletic achievements, he has been involved in a wide variety of projects and causes. He’s been a guest star on numerous primetime television programs, a commentator for NBC, ABC and Fox sports, and host of his own health show as well as the E! Network’s Keeping up with the Kardashians, which documents the daily lives of the Kardashian/Jenner family.
Parents and family members are invited to participate in their own Orientation on Wednesday,  (Convocation, Parent & Family Orientation, and Campus BBQ), and optional free boat rides at the Pueblo Riverwalk from 10- a.m. – noon on Thursday, August 18. On Thursday and Friday, staff will have an opportunity to take in a variety of workshops, including Degree Audit Reporting System, (Thursday, 1 p.m., LARC108) FERPA Information Session (Thursday, 2 p.m., LARC108), Setting Expectations for Graduate Students (Thursday, 3 p.m., LARC108), Sexual Harassment/Sexual Misconduct (Friday, 8:30 a.m., LARC109) and Staying Well in the Workplace (10 a.m. or 1 p.m., OUC 214), Bully/Micro-Inequities Training (Friday, 11 a.m., LARC 109), Campus Safety Issues (Friday, 1 p.m., LARC 109), and Effectively Managing Stress (Friday, 3 p.m., LARC 108). 

Wolf Pack Welcome activities will begin on Saturday, August 20, and continue through Sunday, August 28. Wolf Pack Welcome Campus and community organizations will welcome students back to town at the Student Involvement/Employment Festival from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24.  Student organizations, university departments, and community vendors will be involved in the day’s activities. Businesses and individuals interested getting involved with the festival may obtain a registration form by calling Student Activities at 549-2151. The festival is open to the Pueblo community.
