Colorado State University – Pueblo names Carl Wright VP Academic Affairs/Provost

PUEBLO – Colorado State University – Pueblo President Lesley Di Mare today announced that Dr. Carl Wright, dean of the College of Business at Grambling State University, has been named the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University. Wright was selected from among four finalists through a national search and will begin his duties on July 15.  Rick Kreminski, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, has been serving as interim provost since December of 2011.

Carl WrightAs provost, Wright will be the chief academic officer of the University, providing dynamic and transformational leadership and overall strategic direction for the instructional and research programs of the University.  The Provost is responsible for all aspects of the academic mission and will collaborate with University leadership to guide the institution in advancing its strategic plan while considering the evolving role of the public university in the 21st century. The Provost/VPAA reports directly to the President and works closely and directly with the Vice President for Finance and Administration in a strong team approach to the general administration of the institution.

“I truly believe that Dr. Wright is the best person to serve CSU-Pueblo because of the  combination of his academic background and business and finance experience, which will be a tremendous asset as we move forward with efforts to better align university programs with identified budget priorities,” said President Di Mare. “He also has a passion for underserved populations that is in harmony with our commitment to diversity at CSU-Pueblo.”

Most recently Wright served as dean of the College of Business at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana. Before that, he was at Virginia State University holding positions of chairman of the Department of Accounting and Finance as well as vice-president of business and finance. Prior to assuming administrative positions, Wright has taught business and accounting courses since 1976. He also has served as an accountant and auditor for Arthur Young & Co. and Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., as well as owning his own CPA firm from 1980-2010. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia State University, a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., and a Ph.D. in business administration from Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss. 
     
Wright has co-authored articles on information technology and distance education, along with the role of external auditors in nonpublic regulatory environments. His research interests include data security and structural equation modeling in managerial accounting.
